Early Challenges and Determination
Ravi’s path into the legal profession was not without obstacles. Born in Sri Lanka, his family moved to the UK when he was a child, seeking the benefits of an English education. However, his ambition to study law was met with skepticism. A teacher advised him against pursuing a legal career, questioning his English proficiency and employability. College of Higher Education was persuaded by Ravi’s determination to be a barrister, he gave Ravi a place to study law at the undergraduate level, earning his degree and being called to the Bar at Inner Temple in 1987. Despite his qualifications, Ravi’s early career was marked by challenges. He joined Bedford Magistrates Court as a Legal Advisor in 1988. This role provided valuable courtroom experience and laid the groundwork for his future successes.
The tenure at The Crown Prosecution Service
In 1988, Ravi’s journey brought him to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in Bedford. Later, he moved to London under the guidance of the late Mr. Robert J. Chronnell, then Chief Crown Prosecutor for North London. While Ravi faced racial prejudice and internal conflicts during his tenure, his unwavering work ethic and legal acumen earned him recognition among his peers. Handling various criminal cases, Ravi navigated the complexities of the law with integrity, building the foundation for his reputation as a dedicated advocate. It was a dark and difficult period in Ravi’s career. However, he is extremely grateful to Mr Chronnell for going beyond the call of duty and responsibility for releasing him to undertake his pupillage at 3 Paper Buildings, with full salary being paid by the CPS.
From Barrister to Solicitor: A New Chapter
1993, Ravi transitioned from the Bar to become a solicitor, joining various firms before founding Greesman & Co. Solicitors in 1999. Under his leadership, the firm quickly gained a stellar reputation for criminal defence and immigration advocacy. His hands-on approach—whether representing clients at police stations, magistrates’ courts, or preparing cases for the Crown Court—ensured the highest legal research and advocacy standards.
One of Ravi’s most notable achievements was him being shortlisted for the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Award, recognising his dedication to providing access to justice. Greesman & Co. also earned prestigious accreditations such as Investors in People (IIP), reflecting Ravi’s commitment to excellence.
Overcoming Adversity
Despite professional success, financial challenges led to the firm’s closure in 2007. While this period was difficult, Ravi viewed it as an opportunity for reinvention. He became an employed solicitor advocate, earning certification as a Higher Rights Advocate and establishing himself as a sought-after Crown Court advocate. Known for his persuasive arguments and meticulous preparation, Ravi’s courtroom presence set him apart as a skilled litigator.
A Return to His Roots
Ravi returned to the Bar, rejoining chambers while retaining his duty solicitor status. He continues to provide comprehensive legal services, representing clients from police station interviews to Crown Court trials.
